Re: [newtech-1] Script/tool to find the source of "404 page not found error"

Hey Varun, Just wanted to add that not all 404 are because of a bug on the site.  Various robots may hit the site looking for files with known vulnerabilities in common software. Depending on your server you may be able to get list of all requests that produced a 404 but many of these (most?) will be because someone or something is asking for stuff that is just not there.

I spent about 15-20 minutes to find a script/tool that can monitor the source of "page not found" so that you can quickly find that page where the link is broken and fix it.

I couldn't find one such tool. Either I am really bad in Google-ing or there is an opportunity?

I definitely see a need for such script that can be installed like Google analytics code and notifies you whenever a visitor is hit by such error so that you can quickly track it and fix it.

WOuld appreciate if someone knows such solution already exists.. if not, I guess - I will have my team just build it!!!
