I ditched my larger iPad for the mini. Despite the current lack of retina, the smaller form factor makes up for it, especially when doing reading intensive activities. It's great. I also use cellular (Verizon) but decided to keep AT&T on my iPhone. I always buy the max storage with Apple iDevices since they don't allow expandable storage (eg flash cards). Helps re longevity and hey, you never know. The cloud is still too cloudy to rely on for anything mission critical -- today. You'll have to do your own inventory of app storage and memory usage...mileage will vary. Apps like magazines and newspapers are silent creepers, with files often ranging from 100 to 500 MB. Add music, movies for the plane and photos and you'll appreciate having the 64GB storage.
