Re: [newtech-1] Protocol for job posts

Because we have a job board, and we'd rather have a thread clarifying that job posts are unwelcome once in a while than a daily spamming of our list with inappropriate content for our *discussion* list.

Hopefully it's clear the kind of discussion you will have if you abuse the reach of this list for the gain of very few.

I'm confused about something. Why are job postings such a big problem? Aren't we all "working"? Isn't the point of new technology to employ quality people? Aren't the people on this list interested in hiring the best talent? So, if that's all the case, why are we being squeamish about allowing job postings here?

It seems like the club no one else wants to let anyone else join.

Sai, we've talked about something like this before: you put [JOB] at the beginning of your subject line. Everyone who wants to can create an email filter to route emails with that in the subject line accordingly. Problem solved. Easy to implement, and not as drastic as Ross' scorched earth policy :)
Works for off-topic posts too. Prepend [OT] to your subject line. Done.

I can see where people might get offended by job posts. I use this forum to ask questions and get information from people who mostly likely know more than I do. I also try to offer solutions to people who need help with items I may know about. I view this as an information exchange.

You did post the same job listing to at least 3 lists within a matter of minutes.   Only this one had the preemptive apology. Somehow I feel like we're dealing with a pro. :-)

Thank you Sai. I would hope that others will see the distinction between my email and a third party recruiter sending something blind out.
