Rethinking your email I realize there was a double-interpretation of what I was asking. I wasn't asking about what people pay for to reduce their pain. I was asking what pain consumers have in the consumer (consumption?) process, and defining the consumption process as spending money in exchange for something.
e.g. I hate that I will literally waste 3 hours searching for that perfect movie out of the 2000 options I have with cable, premium channels, netflix, amazon prime, etc.

Isn't the general rule that consumers don't pay to reduce their pain like businesses will? That's why all those social networks try to get huge. Get big and worry about profitability later. It's funny to watch people to complain that their free, or $2, app doesn't give them more.
I'd be careful to verify that consumers will actually pay.
