Re: [newtech-1] Protocol for job posts

Well said Anthony, I couldn't agree more. That being said an acquaintance of mine is looking for a cofounder for his sustainable fashion ecommerce startup. He's looking for someone who can take over their existing website (developed with straight python and django) and grow with the mission. If anyone is interested please contact me offline.

Thanks,

Aleksey,

The primary purpose of the New York Tech Meetup is to support the continued development of the NYTM start-up community. The mailing list is a tool to bring idea folks together with developers and other web and mobile professionals to communicate, network and cultivate their projects. Therefore, the mailing list has always been a good place for someone with an idea to reach out and see if there's anyone that wants to work on a project.

Because NYTM is non-profit, I know that in my mind, recruiters who use the job list for postings, without contributing anything else of value, are abusing the list.

Out of all the recruiters who have posted to the list, only one – in all the time I've been on the list – has actually done more than just  try and troll the list for low hanging fruit. That person is Howard Lazarowitz, a recruiter who recently joined the list and has actually contributed ideas about how to reign in job posting to the list and make a weekly list or something that the NYTM organizers can disseminate through the newsletter they send out.

... Why would people look for co-founders on a mailing list?

IMO, there are enough places for job postings!

We should encourage startup/people posting for job only if they are looking co-founders and partners. This will prevent the board from getting spammed from regular job postings... and encourage startup to seek help from this forum.
