Re: [newtech-1] Non-Profit Where to register

You might want to consider other options because you may not want to give control away to your board as often happens.

A social mission for profit might work out better for you personally,

Or look at doing two entities like Greystone Bakery in Yonkers--they have a mission of providing jobs as a non profit but they wholly own a for profit to generate capital to use for that purpose. Very clever example. We saw them at the Craiglist Foundation Bootcamp a few years ago. They are in NY state. And just for the record they make GREAT brownies.

Hi Adnan,

In addition to the information Anita provided, you may find this link from the NYS Department of State helpful:

It should answer the majority of the questions you might have about establishing a 501(c)(3) Corporation in the State of New York.

The Dept. of State also publishes a step-by-step nonprofit incorporation guide, which can be found here:

A sample of the NYS Certificate of Incorporation form can be found here:

Good luck.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me off-boards.  I'm helping a friend incorporate his nonprofit right now.
