Why and how do you think that you'd get better with Newswire than PR Web? 

If you compare apples to apples (similar services), how different are they? What makes Newswire deliver better results than a PR web equivalent service tier?

I previously spent almost 7 years in the press release distribution business.  I don't have a PR firm to suggest but you could do a lot of the promotion yourself.  If you do, it should be part of well thought out campaign and coordination between press releases, social media activity and organic SEO/blog posts.

If you are going to send a press release out, I would suggest using PR Newswire instead of PR Web.  You'll get better results.  PR Newswire has services that run the gamut (cheap to expensive) accordingly to your needs.  Their lower-end competitor to PR Web is called iReach (  If you have a bigger budget, you could use their microlists to target journalists in a particular sector, etc.

You can also look at expert networks like HARO (part of Vocus) and Profnet or Profnet Connect (part of PR Newswire) to be considered an "Expert" who journalists turn to for feedback for their articles.
