Yes, this is how a number of websites work but we wanted to leverage the existing best of breed apps these companies built (not do much coding in our app for this) and use their swipe card reader.

Isn't that how the Eventbrite and Meetup tickets get handled? Pricing on the app page send to PayPal prepopulated with price and close the sale there?
Or am I missing what you're trying to do.
