Subject: Re: No free lunch - Re: [newtech-1] Your NY Tech Meetup receipt - Pay to Play
Hi, your friendly fact checker here!
It is non-profit. No one profits. It is not yet a 501c3, though. That's a tax status our new Board will help us attain!
Hey Michael, probably the best way to sort this out would be for you to show up at the snowball fight at 4pm! Let's bash each others faces in with snow!
Life's too short to keep debunking this stuff :-)
PS: Just tested the snow in the park and it was snowball worthy. Just need a little packing.

"The NY Tech Meetup is a community-led organization, and is not for
profit. It is currently organized by Nate Westheimer."
It is in fact for profit (not that there's anything wrong with that!).
One day it may be not for profit, but not right now. It's led by the
privately selected board and has no non-profit status.
There is nothing wrong with this or any other meetup making money or
meetup, inc for making money off their great product. What you
shouldn't do is call a for profit organization a non-profit.
