I feel that this (needing to install Silverlight) was actually the
real reason for the site. Microsoft needs to claim that Silverlight is
penetrating the market and this is one of the ways.

It does not matter whether you hated the website; it matters that
Sliverlight shows up in Accept header (I am guessing here, can anyone
confirm?) when you visit one of the statistics gathering sites.
