I'm quite excited to launch the "Community Committee."

This will be a group of around 12 people, dedicated to connecting information and resources within the NY tech community, with the goal of strengthening the NY tech industry.

If you'd like to be on the committee, please indicate (here, in a private message to me, or in a blog post somewhere (post the link here, though)) the following information:

1. Name
2. Occupation
3. Industry organizational membership and involvement (member NYTM, Organizer XYZ Club, member Alumni business club, etc)
4. Which "niche" of the NY community would you like to represent on the Committee (i.e. politics, design, video, university, women, VC, government -- INVENT YOUR OWN!)

If you have any questions, please ask them here.

Please pipe up before next Wednesday, January 14th.
Thanks! This is going to be great!

Hi Nate!

Congratulations on the first #NYTM in 2009! Curious to know if the Community Committee post can be shared? E.g. if the "women" category can be shared by more than one sub-community e.g. Girls in Tech NYC, Webgrrls and the many others? Reason I ask is I know I won't have the time to represent at all times due to a busy calendar, yet would like to help be a conduit of information and source of ideas and opportunities for the women/girls in tech in NYC. Here's my info:

1. Jessica Valenzuela
2. Entrepreneur/CEO Mavin Digital, Inc.
3. #NYTM member; Co-Founder Girls in Tech and Chapter Lead Girls in Tech NYC
4. Many interests ;-), yet want to focus on women in technology for #NYTM

Good luck!

Jessica

Member NYTM, NY Video Group, WGA, NATAS, etc.

I'd like to explore outreach to the Mainstream Media. Years ago, the lament was "they just don't get it." But now, there's clearly groups within ALL NY Media (from tv to print) who DO get it and are working hard to pull their companies into the 21st century.

This area is already represented by Ad Club of NY, NY:MIEG, Web2NY, NextWeb, Digital Wednesday, and a few others. We can start by reaching out to them... but we also need to reach out to the people in BizDev, Technology and Marketing inside these companies.

This isn't about giving away trade secrets -- it's about sharing the same battles, getting smart about the problems, and having "all boats rise with the tide"

Sounds great, Nate! I'm happy to help in any way I can to better grow the NY tech community.

1. Tony Bacigalupo

2. Mayor of New Work City

3. I run Coworking Community NYC (300+ members now!), which includes TechDrinks and all of New Work City's workshops and events.

4. We can call it the Coworking Community, which is composed of folks who are location-independent in their work.

Question: roughly speaking, what kind of obligation do you think that membership in this group will entail? I imagine we'll meet roughly once a month, but are there expectations beyond that?

I'm sure it's still very much up in the air, but anything in that direction helps.

Rock on, New Yorkers!
