Backpacking trails accesible by train from NYC

Hi everyone!

I've been looking for some good resources, to try and find some good back packing trips that may be accessible by train/bus from NYC, since I don't have a care, and rental cars are expensive!

Does anyone out there have any experience with this?

Grew up on the West Coast, and have been struggling to find good information on hikes here on the East.

Any and all advice would be welcome.

Thanks in advance!!!

Appalachian Trail Metro North

Cold Spring Metro North (Hudson Highlands State Park about 1/2 mile north of station about 10 mins by foot)

Tuxedo trains stop on Metro North. Trail a few feet south of the train station. Cross the tracks and walk south.
