March: Will vs Desire

Topic:

Will versus Desire: Planetary Receptions in Action

There are two levels of volition within us: will and desire. The will is our true essence and cannot but be towards the Good. The desire is the self-interest of the ego and develops its own ideas of what might be 'good'. Their interplay is the root of all internal conflicts and the prime motivator of choice.

The same situation holds true with the planets. They can act against their own true nature depending on their placement in the chart. The Table of Dignities will show how closely their desires accord with their will. This instantaneous assessment of 'how well and by whom' the planet is being received in any given sign is the most important point in judgment.

Speaker:

Eric Cornelle is a NYC-based practicing astrologer and holds a Certificate in Astrological Consulting from ISAR. Eric has earned his degrees in both medicine and theater prior to discovering astrology as a field of perfect fusion for art and science. Inspired by teachings and personal example of practitioners like John Frawley, Deborah Holding, Robert Corre and John Marchesella he focuses his primary interest on studies in traditional astrology and metaphysics. Eric can be reached at [masked].

Outline & Directions:

The meetup takes place at the Theosophical Society, which is right next to Quest Bookshop. You may enter through the bookshop before 7pm (when it closes) or to the left of the bookshop after 7pm. A sign will be posted. The following is a rough outline. Please come on time so you can introduce yourself.

7:00 - 7:15 - Brief intros from attendees
7:15 - 8:30 - Talk/presentation
8:30 onward - Socializing

Price:

In line with the non-profit model, the goal is to collect just enough money to pay for expenses including room rental, meetup fees, and hopefully some compensation for the speaker. The hope is that a consistent amount of $5 from everyone each meetup will cover costs, averaged over the long term.

I have to say the meet up overall was a nice and positive one. However this meet up was not geared for all levels of knowledge of astrology. I understand that it is not an "astrology 101" class but about 50% of the class was confusing to me. One the plus note.. if you do know about astrology you will have a blast! Very knowledgable crowd.

Speaking from personal experience, it is really difficult to come up with a topic that beginners will understand, but that won't bore experienced astrologers. Perhaps we can make suggestions for topics in the discussion area, and see if anybody wants to give a talk on the topics suggested?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
