October: Complementary Pairs

Topic:

In this talk, we will focus on 2 aspects of duality in astrology: 1) each planet classically rules 2 signs, and these 2 signs express different aspects of the planet's symbolism, and 2) the planets themselves can be grouped into complementary pairs. By further weaving these concepts with wisdom from The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey, we can better reveal fundamental principles of astrology and apply them to our lives in practical ways. We will also touch on the modern rulerships. I will present this talk at the upcoming NCGR conference, and I will likely try to solicit audience feedback and participation during this practice-run. It should be insightful and accessible to both beginners and advanced astrologers.

Speaker:

Kirk Kahn has been deeply involved in astrology for 12 years. He studied astrology widely at Kepler College, with various other teachers, and at the many conferences organized by the leading astrology organizations, namely NCGR and ISAR. Combining his 2 loves, astrology and software development, he created http://planetwatcher.com and is currently involved in development of the historical atlas used in natal chart calculations.

Outline & Directions:

The meetup takes place at the Theosophical Society, which is right next to Quest Bookshop. You may enter through the bookshop before 7pm (when it closes) or to the left of the bookshop after 7pm. A sign will be posted. The following is a rough outline. Please come on time so you can introduce yourself.

7:00 - 7:15 - Brief intros from attendees
7:15 - 8:30 - Talk/presentation
8:30 onward - Socializing

Price:

In line with the non-profit model, the goal is to collect just enough money to pay for expenses including room rental, meetup fees, and hopefully some compensation for the speaker. The hope is that a consistent amount of $5 from everyone each meetup will cover costs, averaged over the long term.

Hello people,I am waiting for Saturn to get the fuck up out of my natal 12 th house in a few months. Perhaps then I will be extremely aware of who I am and what the fuck my being is supposed to emit.

Is the archetypical libra signs grossly nauseating vacillation over decisions, standards, values, etc; exponentially amplified with pluto conjunct an otherwise (my opinion) debilitated placement for the moon in libra ?

um... well... you do seem a little negative? All signs & planets symbolize both positive affects and difficult situations... options are always available...

Suggestion (and I MAY be able to do it, but if someone else wants to step up, great): Putting Together a Chart. Essentially, take a chart of a well-known person, use a standard "cookbook" astrology beginners' book for the interpretations, and show/discuss how to find themes, connections, and take the individual pieces and come up with a cohesive delineation of the chart.

If we know whose chart it is, there is the tendency to make the interpretations fit the known "facts". When you get a client, how much do you know about him/her in advance, while preparing the chart and its interpretation?

I learned very very early on, when I was still grabbing my friends to "test" my ability to read charts, that the more I stuck to "what I thought I knew" about them, the worse my reading was. As a matter of fact, I learned more than I expected about some of my friends. Most of the time I know next to nothing about a client other than a few random facts. Example: I knew a recent client was an American ex-pat working in Pakistan. Or I knew another client worked as a writer. But I rarely know much more. I prefer knowing as little as possible.

I would like to suggest, either now or in the future, a talk on Astrology to read Autism and Autism Spectrum. Anyone else interested in this??

    September 27, 2013

    • B

Hey thanks for the feedback both of you. Glad you are interested Katrina. I agree Bart, that Autism is a vague diagnosis but that is exactly why I am interested in studying it through the eyes of Astrology. I hope someday more people will be interested in looking at this from an Astrological perspective as I think it is more than a shifting diagnosis scale factor as to why there is an increase in cases. I believe it is an evolutionary step. But, I am no scientist...

I can try to locate some more medically inclined astrologers.... medical astrology is almost a sub division in itself...

I will unfortunately miss the next meetup because I am leaving town early the next day, but I will be back by late November.

Another suggestion: Seeing that it's late October, how about "death and astrology"; we can do it the same way we did September's.
