Most instructive. It was good to work the hives along side people of various levels of experience. Everybody got a chance to take out, handle and return frames to the hive they had open. The fact that there were so many hives standing side by side meant that people could spread out and work with a less crowded situation if they wanted to. It also meant that people could share discoveries: when one group found the queen in "their" hive they would call out and people from other hives could come over and take a look. It's helpful to have the experience of seeing the queen moving about among other moving bees because it gives your visual recognition mechanism the eyes-on training to make it easier to spot queens during future hive examinations. The whole hands-on mentoring and over-the-shoulder through-the-veil real-time sharing experience makes a big difference when it comes to taking care of the bees we become responsible for. Books/classes/hands-on: a steadying tripod of knowledge.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
