Re: [beekeeping-128] Immediate Need for Comb Foundation in Manhattan

May I make a friendly, well-intentioned suggestion?

If we have individual pleas for something, or messages to individuals, could we send them to only those directly involved in the communication, rather than to the entire, ever growing group?  I shudder to think of what it could come to.

I do not mind, for instance, to know that Sergio tried to call Dana and could not get through, but did not leave a message; but, I also do not need to know (I realize that I have a delete button, but I also have lots of e-mails, as I am sure many of us do, and this address in particular has had a lot of, well, unnecessary use as of the last couple of weeks).

This is meant as a friendly suggestion, and in no way pointed at any one person (Sergio, for instance, is a fine fellow indeed, and I am not trying to single him out).  I myself have been guilty of using this address for purposes other than what it is intended.

Unless someone has some valid reason to be compelled otherwise, let's only use this address for Meet-Up related communications and not as a chat room or CL type of place.  For personal messages, I believe that individuals may be contacted via the e-mail on her/his profile.  If it is not there, perhaps s/he wishes not to receive e-mail?

To make this beekeeping related: I have been pulling shallows from hives all day, most of them the second time the things have been filled.  I am covered in stings.  I should have used Bee-Quick.  In any case, a dark overcast day is not the best day to do these things, but tomorrow will be no better.

I hope everyone is enjoying their independence this weekend and that I have not offended anyone with my two cents.  If you agree with the above, the best response would be none!

Best.

Dear Bee Keepers:

Sorry I couldn't make last weekend's meet-up. I hope you had a good discussion.

My order for bee supplies from Dadant has been delayed until Monday at the earliest, and I wanted to harvest and put a few new frames in for my girls to give them more room in the mean time. Is there anyone in Manhattan or Brooklyn with a few extra sheets of comb foundation that they could loan me until early next week? Three to five would be ideal.

If so, please email or phone me at (646) 296-4264.

Thanks!

Dana

Announcing a new Meetup for The New York City Beekeeping Meetup Group!

What: Honey Harvest and Bottling Bee

When: July 6,[masked]:00 AM

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Well, the first honey supers are full of honey and we're ready to roll, but first the honey room has to be cleaned up from last year. In our excitement we left that work undone last summer. So bring/wear old clothes (rubber gloves and black tie optional) and prepare for some sticky work. The clean-up should take less than an hour and then we extract. It's the most rewarding moment in a beekeeper's life to see that honey flowing down!
Because the quarters are cramped, participation is limited to 8. He/she who hesitates is lost.
