Announcing a new Meetup for NYC Cycling & Food!

Palisades Skyline Sandwich Ride!

What: Palisades Skyline Sandwich Ride!

When: Mar 6 Sat 8:30 AM

Where: George Washington Bridge, 178 street and Fort Washington, New York, NY 10033

I'm organizing this event along with a hiking group, so it will be a duathlon (bike-and-hike) or a triathlon (bike-hike-eat)! You are welcome to do both bike-and-hike, or just do the ride. We will meet up 8:30a at George Washington Bridge ped/bike path entrance, ride over GWB and up 9W about 10 miles to NY/NJ state line section of Palisades Interstate Park. Since there will not be a restaurant / food stop (except for a refreshment stand), I will be asking everyone to pack your favorite sandwich beforehand and bring it on the ride. When you RSVP, please list the sandwich you will be bringing (and whether or not you will also hike the trails - read further down) in the comments box. Mine is pastrami-on-rye/Reuben/Rachel, so I will be bringing one of these!

The ride will end at "State Line Lookout," the tallest point in the Palisades at 532 feet, where you will be treated to awesome views of the Hudson: http://www.njpalisade.... After oohs and aahs and Kodak moments, we will be showing off and biting into our sandwiches.

At this point, you can return to NYC via the same route we took, you can chill out and enjoy the scenery longer (head down to the river) before riding back, or you are welcome to lock up your bike and hike Giant Stairs / Long Path trails with me and the hiking group, but be aware that it is a difficult 4.5-mile rock scramble/hike and you will need hiking boots + 2 liters of water. Full details about the actual hike:

For the ride back, I will ask another rider to lead the return group, and I will have cuesheets made for everyone. Since I have to coordinate this event with another group and need to be at the rendezvous point at the State Line Lookout on time, we'll be keeping a moderate / steady 15mph pace. A road-type bicycle with slicks is a must (a hybrid or a mountain bike with street slicks will do also).

It'll be awesome!
