Everyone I've met has been very friendly, and everyone is always learning new games so it's fun. I've never had to sit around for very long as there's always someone who's starting something new who can take another player or someone else who's coming in.

David Christian on Dec 21, 2007.

  • New York City Boardgames & Cardgames Group

This was my first time meeting the group. Everyone was welcoming and very friendly. It might be nice to meet with the group once in a while on another night of the week incase some people can't come on Thursdays. Maybe Monday or Wednesday night might be nice once in a while.

    Heather on Nov 16, 2007.

  • New York City Boardgames & Cardgames Group

  • New York City Boardgames & Cardgames Group

This is a friendly and funny group that is involved in a lot of low energy gaming. Some of the games are much more skill focused than luck, some are almost pure luck, and some are fairly even. Nevertheless, the people are great. They create the atmosphere and cause the meetups to be enjoyable, possibly more than the games do.

  • New York City Boardgames & Cardgames Group

It's so difficult to meet folks living in "the city" -- let alone folks willing and able to sit down for long stretches of time to play boardgames! It was so nice to have "meetup" do the legwork for me, and give me a chance to participate in the hobby I adore.

  • New York City Boardgames & Cardgames Group

If you like German-style card games, involving strategy and memory, you'll like it here. If you like other kinds of games, you should bring them with you. Either way, game groups are great ways to have fun and meet people without pressure (applies especially for rather shy folk, like me).

    Kath on Jun 18, 2009.

This is my first time hearing about it. It's like www.myspace.com. I find though that www.evite.com is better because it's private and well organized. What ever works and what ever makes the organizer feel more confortable and still get the same results, it's okay with me. I kind of like this weblink, and Meetup Group.

Broad mix of people. I think the group did a good job of encouraging people who weren't used to the style of games. Well done.

  •  It was a good group. I hope we get a few more good people to make sure we have at least one game going if one or people cannot make it.

  •  The organizers tried to be helpful, but the event was not what I was looking for.

    —A former member on Feb 2, 2007.

  •  I wish that I had been able to meet some people. Perhaps the problem was that I was late and everyone was already engaged when I got there. Luckily I had both a game and a friend.

    christine on Jul 7, 2006.

  •  Most everyone in the group is friendly and inviting.

Melissa [UES] on Aug 3, 2006.

  •  Like I said, it seemed like decent start. Maybe a bit more beverages and snacks, but we should try and coordinate that a bit more. I think with just 1 or 2 more people, this could be a decent regular group thing.

Robert Washington on Dec 19, 2005.

  •  David's a nice guy and a great organizer.

Jim Campagna on Mar 3, 2006.

  •  I think they should specify that this is a strategy game club and if you like fun, frivolous party games, to stay away from them.

    —A former member on Dec 18, 2005.

  •  I'm going to try one more time, this time I'll be bringing my friend again and games to play. My friend at least brought cards, without those we would have had nothing.

    —A former member on Sep 8, 2005.

  •  I think this group needs critical mass. At Neutral Ground, you won't draw as many women (or guys who are afraid of geekdom), so the numbers will stay low. If the numbers stay low, only one or two games will be played, and if people don't like those games, they won't come back. With a better venue, more people will show and there will be a larger variety of games to play, and that in turn will mean more people get to play what they want and will want to come to more meetups. A boardgame meetup is a fantastic idea and definitely should continue.

    —A former member on Jul 23, 2005.

  •  Seems like a very intersting group. Maybe we should try and plan a particular game that will be the focus each month. Or, get an idea of what going to be playing each meetup.
