New York City F# User Group Message Board › More functional than Swift: native iOS development with Xamarin/F# meetup, J
Anyone in the S.F. Bay Area this week:
Tachyus, in San Mateo, is hosting the Xamarin users group meetup next Tuesday, July 8. Tachyus will showcase a real production mobile app, whose business logic is built entirely in purely functional code (see below).
If you don't already know, Xamarin provides cross-platform native development in familiar .NET languages, F# and C#, (using Mono instead of .NET) that compile to native run-time. (Let's say that again, "native run-time".) You can build native apps for iOS, Android, Linux, and Mac, sharing the same back-end, business-side, code. Only the GUI layer has to be built specifically for the platform.
Mike Berlin of Xamarin will present an overview of the new Xamarin features, including full F# support. Tachyus Engineer Will Smith will conduct a code tour of the Tachyus production iOS mobile app he has built entirely in F# for the oil & gas production industry. He says the business layer code is purely functional. (Try doing that with Swift!) Come see for yourself.
