Announcing a new Meetup for The NYC Jazz Meetup Group!

What: Jack Jeffers at Minton's Playhouse!

When: December 28,[masked]:00 PM

Minton's Playhouse
206 West 118th Street Take the 2, 3, B, or C to 116th Street
New York, NY 10026

We are going back to this great and honored institution to hear the wonderful Jack Jeffers and the New York Classics (16 piece Jazz Orchestra)! Everyone loved it so I want to give more of you a chance to hear this great orchestra!

Minton's Playhouse is legendary... those of you who have participated in Gordon Polatnick's Harlem jazz tours have heard the stories. The mural behind the stage is the original mural from the 1940's. Minton's is a comfortable club with FREE admission and a 2-drink minimum.

The musicians: (subject to minor substitutions)

Jack Jeffers Director; Bass Trombone
Lakecia Benjamin, Irwin Hall Altos
James Stewart, Anthony E. Nelson Tenors
Don Slatoff Baritone
Junior Vega, Mack Gollehan, Don McIntosh, Reggie Pittman Trumpets
Stafford Hunter, Andrae Murchison, James Burton Trombones
Sonelius Smith Piano
Bryce Sebastien Bass
Warren Smith Drums

Bass trombone/tubist Jack Jeffers is REALLY a "Jack of All Trades"!!! His accomplishments range from building jet airplanes, degrees in law, to a prominent studio and broadway career. His musical experiences extends to a recording and performing career with the likes of Lena Horne, Clark Terry, Count Basie, Thad Jones, Maynard Ferguson, Don Cherry, Herbie Hancock, Pharaoh Sanders, Frank Foster, Carla Bley, Charles Tolliver, Dizzy Gillespie, etc... (just to name a few). Also, he is co-leader of the Duke Ellington Orchesta. And, for someone born in 1928, he is more active than most musicians half his age.

PLUS: I made a great discovery! Go to the corner and then up one block for Southern Cooking that will knock your socks off (and very inexpensive!). So we will meet there (call me if you have trouble finding it) at 8:00PM.
