Demystifying Rails

We're going to do a series of meetups about understanding Rails internals and demystifying Rails. This is the first part of the series. Joon You (rubyhead - http://blog.rubyhead.com/about/) will cover:

The Rails code base and layout.
How the rails command and scripts work.
How to lookup Rails methods in the Rails source code
What are Railties and ActiveSupport
Using pry over irb to debug and look up source code.

The talk will be a demo as we create a Rails up to learn about these topics.

The meetup is being hosted by the lovely people at meetup.com, so that's pretty special too. Pizza will arrive at 6:30, talk will start at 7, and there will be time to hang out after till about 8:30-8:45. See you there!

ambitious class that didn't quite hit its mark. the discussion of tools was great, but the rails content seemed rushed. would love to see it done again w/a larger time margin.

I thought it was good. I have been looking for more code oriented talks in the area and this fits the bill.

Agreed Aisha. I should have done our usual thing and charged $5 to ensure that the people that RSVP'd actually show up. I'll talk to meetup.com about allowing more RSVPs and I'll email everyone that is attending to make sure they actually plan on showing up. Turning on the waitlist now.

I think David's talk tomorrow is more about Ruby and how it works and this is more about Rails internals. Plus, it's different voices, new perspectives, and even after using ruby for 5 years, I still find myself learning new things at each talk.

How will this differ from other presentations, like the "Nuby" lecture tomorrow or other introductory courses? I see the sylabus in the description, but there's a lot of overlap.
