Object Orientation and Ruby + Agile Development

Every week during the Flatiron School semester, 2 students will present a 30 minute talk and then we'll have an hour of networking and discussiong. Every Tuesday from 7pm-9pm!

The talks will range from how to configure your development environment and use dotfiles to using http streams and pushing data. They will be fast and focused.

This week we have two awesome post-Sandy presentations.

Li Ouyang - Object Orientation and SOLID Principles in Ruby

For a lot of us coming to Ruby from Rails, or getting into code with Ruby, we take Object Orientation for granted. In fact, we might not even be aware of when we're writing OO or when we're being procedural. In this talk Li Ouyang, following the footsteps of Sandi Metz, will discuss a basic definition of Object Orientation vs Procedural (or Functional Code), along with code examples. She'll also demonstrate key OO concepts and how they help create more maintable, flexible, and semantic code.

Matt Salerno - Agile Methodologies

We hear it all the time, "be agile", "iterate", "scrum", but what do those things actually mean? Former Scrum Master at the venerable Cyrus Innovation will give us a bit of history and a lot of theory and practice about how to actually be an agile developer. I've seen this presentation, it's awesome. Don't miss it, it'll make you better. See you Tuesday!
