THE NYC SOAPMAKER'S CIRCLE

What are we doing tonite?

Tonight? We make soap

-- Fight Club, 1999

ABOUT THIS GROUP:

The New York City Soapmaker's Circle is dedicated to bringing together fun, interesting people who love to be creative and make bath and body toiletries. We'll practice soapmaking, including natural soap, bath fizzies, sea salt and sugar scrub, etc. In the future, we may also do a field trip or host a guest speaker on soap making. The possibilites are endless!

ABOUT YOUR ORGANIZER:

My name is Corris and I love quality and natural bath products, especially creating and packaging them for close friends and family. I enjoy learning new techniques from others too!

As a kid, I began to love soap because it was fun! My fondest memories of soap were as a child taking baths with Mr. Bubble. My mom would run the water and pour in the syrupy soap and then sit Mr. Bubble on the bathtub ledge. I'd play and splash until it was time to get out and dry off. Ah the memories!!

In the past few years, I've let day-to-day living get in the way of my favorite hobby and I'm hoping that creating this soapmaking group -- NYC Soapmaker's Circle -- will get me back into doing what I really enjoy and with new friends to boot!

WHO CAN JOIN:

Anyone who is skilled or has an interest in making soap and other bath products. You must also have a good spirit and personality. wink Please check the egos and bossy behavior at the door. If you're under the age of 18, you may join but please be mature and ask your parents' permission. I reserve the right to remove any group member who is disrespectful, causing serious problems, or hurting the friendly dynamic of the group. Let's focus on having fun and being crafty!

WHAT WILL WE DO?

  • We'll have fun! We'll smile and laugh!
  • Soap making and creating other bath products: sugar scrubs, bath salts, etc.
  • Attend soapmaking classes and related lecutures
  • Swap recipes and share information on resources for soap making and bath toiletries
  • Learn how to package our completed soap projects
  • Guest speakers and field trips
  • Lots of opportunities to network with other soapmakers/craft sellers/business owners
  • Variety of craft classes offered in NYC

I'm open to all of your ideas and suggestions, so please feel free to share them with me.
