NYC Animal Advocacy Network Message Board › Can you help mother pigs in NJ?
Happy Tuesday! The vote in the New Jersey senate to ban cruel gestation crates that mother pigs are locked in is coming up on December 19th. The campaign is going into its final stage this week and volunteers are needed between this Thursday (Dec. 12) and next Thursday (Dec. 19). We need all hands on deck to end this barbaric practice once and for all in New Jersey.
So, here's the deal: every day until Dec. 19, activists are going door to door in key districts, asking residents to please call their legislator and urge them to vote "yes" on the vote to ban gestation crates. We know this is working and that NJ residents are calling - we’ve filled the inboxes for several legislators’ voicemails with calls!
Folks are door knocking from about 10am to 5pm, with a lunch break and several breaks for the bathroom, gas, snacks, etc. Also, people are going out door knocking in groups, so you'd always be with other people.
You can either go down for a full day (10am to 5pm), or go for multiple days and stay overnight in a big house that they have rented that many activists are staying at in Belmar, NJ (which is very close to Asbury Park). If you drive, it’s about 90 minutes from NYC, or about two hours on the train (someone can pick you up at a nearby station). There may also be some carpooling on certain days.
If you’d like learn more about it and go, please email Kenny Torrella at KTorrella@HumaneSociety.org.
And feel free to invite others – the more the merrier!
