Our next meet up will be held at the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) on Tuesday, November 11th.

Our main discussion will revolve around building, deploying, and supporting high availability applications with Amazon EC2 and S3.

We have two exciting presentations followed by an interactive question and answer session.

Stevie Clifton will talk about his experience building Animoto.com wholly within EC2, dealing with a 3500-instance Facebook spike, and how his team has learned to tailor their architecture to a cloud environment.

Jamal Mazar will discuss how Kaavo achieved high availability and scalability on EC2 with their IMOD (Infrastructure and Middleware On Demand) platform .http://www.kaavo.com/...

Learn about best practices in high level EC2 architecture design as well as low level issues and gotchas. Learn about how to "jump start" your AWS deployment and the tools available to build and maintain your components.

We will allow plenty of time for collaborative discussion.

We will provide light snacks and beverages.

Email me if you have any questions. Please RSVP.

I really enjoyed presenting to an interactive group, great questions! Also want to thank John for all the work he did to make this a great event. Logistics and location were awesome.

Who attended?

  • 20 attendees
    •  Both presentations were excellent and I'm looking forward to more!
    • Jose Gonzalez (+1 guest)
I thought this was really a great opportunity to meet real users of Amazon's AWS services and learn from their experiences and growing pain. It was really worth my while. John, you really did a good job managing this presentation and the participating presenters were really awesome. Cheers JEG (jose)
    •  Beyond my own use of EC2, it got me thinking of how cloud computing security is different from normal server farm security. At Trend Micro, we've been focused on our own use of cloud computing to provide security services to traditional architectures, but the question now is: how would security solutions look different for cloud computing architectures?
    •  Excellent Presentations by 3 speakers - very informative, idea sharing
    •  We were fortunate enough to have great presentations from Jamal (Kaavo) and Stevie, Dan, and Jeff of Animoto. We really dug in and learned how they deployed, problems they encountered, and potential gotchas.
    •  excellent speakers, with good solid real-world data/graphs. very nice. Good to highlight possible pitfalls and how to properly architect for the cloud
