“The Living Legacy”
Mickey Dunne and Oliver O’Connell
An evening of Music, Song, Dance and Story capturing the rich tradition of Ireland’s Travelling Musicians.
With the recent passing of the legendary Pecker Dunne, there is now a huge void in Ireland’s Travelling entertainers as the iconic figures from the Travelling Culture are no longer visible on the streets of Ireland. Mickey Dunne a direct descendant of one of Ireland’s most famous travelling musicians will bring to life the story of Ireland’s Travelling Troubadours with fiddle, Uilleann Pipes and Low whistle. He will tell of life on the streets and lanes of Ireland playing music for a living and bringing Ireland’s rich music tradition alive from Donegal to Clare and all over the Island. Oliver O’Connell will tell the story of the rich cultural heritage of Co Clare and will recall the times when Irish Music Irish Dance Songs and Stories were struggling to survive in an era in Ireland impoverished from the effects of war, famine and emigration. Oliver will outline in detail the close relationship between the vibrant rhythms of North Clare so important for Set Dancing and the Passion energy filled music of the Travelling Musicians.
The program will also present a visual documentary with footage never before seen of some of Ireland’s most influential traditional musicians.
