We will once again celebrate the music, dance and culture of the Celtic nation of Brittany on this night as we join with BZH NY for the St. Yves Fest Noz, This will be one of more than 300 events worldwide celebrating St. Yves Day.
Transporting us back to Brittany on this night will be the Samuel Le Henanff Quartet (left), led by world-renowned Breton accordion player Samuel Le Henanff. From the official write-up:
Samuel Le Henanff Quartet is inspired by the traditional music of Brittany, France infused with a mosaic of influences ranging from Latin to Flamenco with a hint of jazz, touched off with blues. The original arrangements offer a refreshing and contemporary expression and an energetic take on traditional Breton dance music. Samuel Le Henanff, a veteran of the traditional Breton music scene having collaborated or been member of Trio Dédé Le Meut, Tri Pichon Noz, Kanerion Pleuigner, duo Le Gallic - Le Hénanff, Kevrenn Alré, Bagad Ronsed Mor... but also Gilles Servat - Tilsam - Trio Jézéquel, Le Hénanff, Quéméner - Ag ar Choej; having traveled extensively throughout Europe, the USA, the Reunion and Rodrigues islands, and China seeking to mélange and blend traditional music.
A fest noz is the Breton version of an Irish ceili, featuring the traditional music and dancing of Brittany. The Breton group dances are inclusive and easy to get the hang of. So these are great events to enjoy and participate in and we hope you'll join us on this night for this very special and unique experience. No one's ever come to one of our fest noz meetups before and not had an amazing time.
Doors at 7, music starting probably about 7:45ish. No pre-meetup, just go straight to Connolly's. $15 cover at the door, $10 if you're a member of this meetup group.
See you there!
