Public education and economic viability are two important features of making recycling work in NYC. but the often unseen labor of custodians, collectors and sorters is no less important; as in the physical set-u of buildings, streets, and public spaces.
Join Samantha MacBride, sociologist, NYU lecturer and Deputy Director of Recycling for the NYC Department of Sanitation, for a discussion of how labor and structure enable successful recycling and how these these seemingly "background" issues are critically important to the viability of sustainable waste management.
