Some of you may remember that blustery day this spring, April 14th, when at least 3,000 people gathered in Battery Park to tell Congress to STEP IT UP and take action against climate change. More specifically, cut CO2 emissions 80% by 2050. Whales, boats, human waves, shark dogs, and more paraded across lower Manhattan forming a "Sea of People" and starting a tidal wave of change.....It was beautiful! Even the NYT thought so (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/15/nyregion/15warming.html?_r=2&oref=slogin&oref=slogin)
Simultaneously, hundreds of other rallies occurred across the nation and the response was great. Hillary Clinton even signed on to the bill after this disjointed mass rally. Alas, there is still so much work to be done. So we're at it again.
With beefed up policy goals (see stepitup2007.org) and a new locale (Washington Square Park), another rally will take place on Nov 3rd at noon. This time, we'll be focused on making everyone feel like part of the solution - literally and figuratively. Not only part of the political solution by being engaged in politics. But also planting seedlings in our eco-alter, making "messages in terrariums" to spread the message and tools for carbon neutralization. There will be music, speakers, art and more!
If any of your wonderful people out there would like to volunteer to help out on the day of the event or even help out before, PLEASE let me know! If not, do come out on 11/3. Let the Sea of People flow, the seeds of change blossom as the US becomes a leader in the fight against climate change... in DC, in Bali, across the globe!!
