Getting Creative with Reuse
“Creative Reuse”—What it is. What it isn’t. Who’s doing it. Please join us at Material for the Arts in Long Island City (directions below) for our first meeting of the New Year as we explore these and other issues surrounding the important second tier of the Reduce/Reuse/Recycle hierarchy. While “reuse” simply means extending the life of an item by using it more than once, there are many different ways to implement a reuse strategy, including conventional reuse; refurbishing/remanufacturing; and creative reuse, which involves “upcycling” or repurposing. And all of these differ from what we know as recycling.
Our panel of experts will include:
Harriet Taub and John Kaiser from MFTA;
Karen Overton from Recycle-A-Bicycle and the Partnerships for Parks; and
Carlos Salgado from Scrapile.
They’ll explain the subtle differences in the various reuse approaches, focusing on creative reuse and how reuse can help save time, money, energy and resources. Following the presentations and discussion, we’ll have an opportunity to tour the MFTA facility.
