Note all 5 questions must now be answered in order for you to be approved for the group. #1 What is your interest in QF ? Why are you drawn to it ?

It is an exciting area where mathematical skills are valued. In contrast with being an academic mathematician, quants work on problems that are of direct interest to many people around them. Also, finance is tied in with the rest of the world.

What do you hope this group will do for you?

I'd like to spend time talking about finance with people. I'd also like to meet people to study for interviews with. Long-term, members of this group could form a nice network of friends as I move about in the finance world.

The main purpose of this group is for local NY/NJ Quants and Quant wannabe's to meet in person or discuss on the message board. Would you be interested in actively participating on the Message Boards or meeting in person?

Yes. Both the message boards and meeting in person.

What is your professional background ? What was/is your careerpath to QF ?

BS/MS electrical engineering. PhD (pure) math (analysis/PDE/inverse-problems). Finishing a three year postdoc in applied math at Columbia. I've been working on Monte Carlo methods. See: www.columbia.edu/~il2176

The Wilmott Forums, Quantnet.org and Nuclearphynance are great online financial engineering communities. The purpose of this group specifically is to encourage active group participation. Have you RSVP'd yet YES/NO/MAYBE for our next event?

I haven't seen this event listing but will go to any event that I am in town for.

Introduction

I am a postdoc at Columbia University (applied math) who is looking to learn about and move into quantitative finance. www.columbia.edu/~il2176
