This month Rossen Stoyanchev of Pivotal will be presenting on Spring Framework 4.0's support for WebSocket, SockJS, and STOMP-based message brokering.

In his presentation Rossen will provide a comprehensive update on the subject from a Spring developer's perspective.  He will discuss JSR-356 strengths and limitations, the current status of WebSocket runtimes, and most importantly will introduce the comprehensive WebSocket and SockJS support in Spring Framework 4.  Finally, he will cover Spring Framework 4.0's support for STOMP-based message brokering.

Rossen is a senior staff engineer at Pivotal focusing on web development. He is a committer on the core Spring Framework team responsible for the development of Spring MVC.  Prior to that Rossen spent several years teaching and consulting clients building enterprise Java applications in a broad range of areas.

One of the questions was "Can Android make use of WebSockets since it uses Java?" The release of Web Profile (where JSR-356 is implemented) is only supported in Java 7, and Android is still limited to Java 6. This doesn't mean you can't implement it yourself. https://github.com/koush/Loggy is an android app I use sometimes for debugging that hosts a webserver and sends logs over WebSockets. It doesn't have any fail over, just thought I'd post it for anyone curious.

    Greetings Attending Java Powers,

I'm just recently back to the Tri-State Area, having been away for ~22 months. And, I just found the announcement for the January Meetup, being this evening! I may be too late to RSVP, but that's my question. If I show up this afternoon at About.com, will I be taken down, handcuffed, and dragged out the door, and dumped in the down elevator? Embarrased for the query.

    Sláinte,

    Doug

We typically aim to wrap up by 8:30 PM and adjourn to a local bar to network and socialize.

I showed up to 1500 Broadway and was told by the security guard that the building was closed for Martin Luther King Day and the event was cancelled. Did someone forget to check the schedule or did I have the wrong location?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
