Ever want to take the cooking outside the house. Well, we all know folks are grilling, using propane and store bought charcoal; but what if there was a way to efficiently and sustainably have a wood fired cook stove to prepare all your summertime favorites using found, scrap and pallet wood.
This is exactly what we will be covering in this full day workshop at the Eastern Light Project base in Pomona! We will talk about the importance of clean efficient wood burning systems for both cooking and heating while constructing an efficient cook stove.
Rocket stoves work off of a new principle of design recently discovered by Ianto Evans during his time at the Apprevecho Institute in Oregon. The main idea stems from a full understanding of the science of fire, and what it likes to make it burn.
The workshop will be taught by local cob oven builder and natural plasterer, Andy Sahn. Andy studied with Ianto in the summer of 2011 at the Cob Cottage Company where he learned to construct natural houses from Cob, Straw Bales, Round poles, and a slew of other natural and found materials. He has since went on to work with professional rocket stove builders Ernie and Erica Wisner, and has picked up a few more tid bits on the construction of rocket stoves for heating and cooking.
You can expect to learn:
-Different materials involved in building for high temperature burns
-Mixing and applying Cob
-General theory of Rocket stoves
-Information about alternative cooking and heating designs.
The workshop will conclude with a pizza made from our cob oven.
The workshop will be based on a sliding scale, $50-$75
