Monthly Meetup (Strategic Regional Gatherings and Organizing in the Northeast)

  • Oct 1, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This month's theme will be "Regional PC Gatherings and Organizing (Northeast)"

We can discuss growing efforts to organize regionally in the last few years, including two gatherings that are taking place at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies later this month; a 2nd region-wide Open Space gathering and a first-ever Northeast Women in Permaculture gathering.

We can touch on various 'live debates' that are on-going across the region and that could benefit from collective wisdom and focused action. Hear about the projects of PINE, the Permaculture Institute of the Northeast, including a regional Spokescouncil, resource database, and PR project -- and focus in on how to more strategically organize locally to participate and plug into the momentum of these regional conversations.

Hosted by: Uma Alice Lo returns from a 3-month sojourn bringing good NYC-permie tidings to the Bay Area and Chicago [show-and-tell to come later!]. She is a board member of PINE, a member of Green Phoenix Permaculture, participated in the regional gathering at Omega last year, and is an organizer of the gatherings this year.

If you have specific questions, feel free to post them in the Comments section in advance!

This meetup is held the first Tuesday of each month and has two purposes.

Firstly, it serves as a general networking opportunity for Permies in the area to meet each other and to provide mutual aid. What are you working on and where? Who is available to help each other with projects? What kind of resources are you looking for and how can we support each other in practice and learning?

Secondly, this is an information session to increase knowledge about various facets of permaculture from gardening/farming practices, to whole systems design, to alternative economic systems, regenerative enterprise, and community building.

*A $5 donation will be optional for our meetups. Proceeds help sponsor PDC students, establish and maintain demonstration sites, purchase land for a land trust network, and other sustainable culture educational projects in the Northeast. The PayPal link sends a donation to Green Phoenix Permaculture, a 501c3 organization.*
