Introduction

I'm one of the organizers of Green New Yorkers Meetup group http://www.meetup...

Would you be interested in taking a PDC course?

Yes! I wish Permaculture principles were taught starting in kindergarten :-)

Do you have a place to apply permaculture designs?

My home garden http://www.meetup.com/GreenNewYorkers/photos/2303361/

Are you currently in an ecovillage, organizing one, or would you be interested to join one?

Yes! I belong to an urban "virtual" Ecovillage. http://www.meetup.com/GreenNewYorkers/messages/boards/thread/19231322

What kind of invisible structure ideas do you favor?

My Green New Yorkers Meetup group is a "virtual" Ecovillage, an invisible but very connected and active community. http://www.meetup.com/GreenNewYorkers/

Have you completed the PDC course and been certified? Diploma?

Thinking about taking it. I completed Claudia Joseph's Urban Permaculture Accelerated Training Certificate course. http://www.meetup.com/GreenNewYorkers/events/57879082/

  • Hi Helen, so glad to hear that you'll be attending! I was wondering if Green New Yorkers might be interested in donating vermicompost worms for NYCCGC's Forum. We will be holding a raffle to honor the spirit of community gardeners citywide. Your name and contribution would be displayed on our website and the forum program to be seen by our city's 15,000 community gardeners and countless others. If you're interested, feel free to contact me directly at [masked]. Thanks for all that you do!

  • Hi Helen,

Thanks for your suggestion! We'd like to recommend Seeds of Discent for the Green New Yorker Anniversary LIST. Nic is hard at work on his second novel, more details about that to come soon! Thanks again for thinking of us!

  • Hi Helen-
We went to the Brooklyn Grange today to iron out some details, and I think we will be needing a bit of help from some volunteers. Do you think anyone in your group could help us out and then maybe give a small donation? We've also reduced the ticket price to $30 if that might be more doable for members. If you have any other questions, you can email me at [masked]

    Thanks!

  • Hi Helen, that's great to hear - thanks for including us in your calendar of upcoming events! Philly is definitely a city to watch when it comes to green initiatives. We give a lot of credit to Mayor Michael Nutter, who vowed in 2008 to make Philly "the greenest city in America." I think one of his Office of Sustainability's most inspiring achievements was allowing local high school kids to help grow produce on a newly created farm in Fairmount Park and sell the harvest to a local ShopRite.

  • If you're still searching for a meet up event, I think I have the perfect one in mind. Nic Esposito is an urban farmer and talented writer who recently completed what may be the first-ever novel about urban homesteading. Nic will be reading excerpts from Seeds of Discent, a book inspired by his work with Philly's Emerald St. Urban Farm Project, next Friday, 7/6, at Bluestocking Bookstore from 7-9 pm and on Saturday, 7/7, at Word Up, also from 7-9 pm. Join us!
