Have you tried coffee grounds?
They really work well as a fertilizer.
Also Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate).

Subject: [permaculture-61] Eggplant, Rosa Bianca: Harvest Question

I have a Rosa Bianca eggplant in a container. It is fruiting quite a bit but I don't know when to harvest it. The eggplants began as a deep shocking purple and then they turned to a creamy lavender and now they are almost all ivory. They are the size of about 2 fists. When I squeeze the flesh, it is still hard, and it does not give at all. The skin is not very shiny but today I noticed that there are some brown, crackly blemish streaks in the skin which makes me think that maybe they are already too mature. This photo was taken on August 1st: ( but now they are much more of an ivory color. Do I need to wait longer or did I already miss the boat?
