Hello everyone,

My name is Melanie, I live in Brooklyn, but just got back into town after 2 weeks or so away.  I am getting down to OWS for the first time this afternoon, hopefully within the next hour or so!

I am excited!

This is the first time I have heard of a strong permaculture presence there, & this is absolutely the kind of group/set of ideas I would be most proud to represent with.   Can someone please give me a call or text to my cell phone if there is a permaculture section to today's march? I don't have a smart-phone, but my cell number is:[masked]

I see the Food Justice group, but that seems a little far away from Zucotti Park. So I'm not sure how that ties in to what OWS has planned.  Perhaps Zucotti Park is a stop on today's march?

ALSO, speaking of films to screen - I am actually involved with a new documentary in post-production called Growthbusters: Hooked on Growth.  We are having our 'world premiere' in Washing DC on the 25th, but after that, we are free to screen it anywhere --- & are actively looking for screeners, actually.

Our website is here, if you'd like more info & a trailer: www.growthbusters.org

Okay -- I look forward to meeting everyone, & to representing permaculture at OWS!  I may even make it to Guggenheim Labs this evening, as I am a big fan of 'End of Suburbia'

Again, please feel free to shout out to me by cellphone is something 'important' is going on this afternoon.

Thanks!!

Melanie

For showing movies, its difficult as no sound amplification is allowed at Liberty Sq. But the whole world is watching and listening so there are multiple ways to share info & actions..

Van Jones: Marines to stand with Wall Street protesters

By David Edwards
Monday, October 3, 2011

In his speech to the “Take Back The American Dream” conference Monday, former Obama advisor Van Jones held up the “Occupy Wall Street” movement as an example of what progressives could do to force change.

“I’m not mad at [the tea party] for being so loud,” he said. “I’m mad at us for being so quiet the last two years.”

“Something just came across the news wire,” Jones announced. “It’s an extraordinary thing. We know we have the young folks and the struggling folks who are down there on Wall Street… They went down there to the scene of the crime against our future. They went down there and they have been camping in the rain. They’ve been beaten. They’ve been pepper-sprayed. They’ve been falsely arrested. And when they police were dragging them away, they said, We’re out here, the 99 percent, we’re fighting the one percent. You, officer, are part of the 99 percent. We’re fighting for your pensions too. We’re fighting for your pensions too.’ This is a new movement.”

“And because of their courage and the character they showed, today it was announced that in their dress blues,Marines are going to protect them and stand with them. In their dress blues! The Marines! The veterans!”

He added: “This is a movement moment! Something’s happening in America! Something’s happening in America! Don’t you give up on this country! Don’t you give up on this movement!”

“They’re going to stand out there with those young people in their dress uniforms. And one of them had a sign and the sign said, ‘This is the second time I fought for my country… It’s the first time I’ve known who my enemy was.’”

I was down there for a few hours and attempted to discuss the economic implications of Peak Oil. I believe, like others, that we have seen a peak in the size of the global economy, which will continue to contract due to a plateau and then decline in global oil production. I believe this perspective should be explored more at OWS. I'm not sure how receptive most people were, or if they fully understood the implications of what I was explaining. Does anyone have any ideas? Perhaps a film screening?
