First Global Soil Week
18-22 November 2012 | Berlin, Germany
The First Global Soil Week will bring together stakeholders from science, government, business and civil society to discuss their land and soil-related experience and expertise, and to develop plans of action for sustainable land/soil management and governance. Participants will gather from 18-22 November 2012, in Berlin, Germany, for this event, with dialogue sessions, panels and other events considering topics such as the economics of land degradation, the challenges of soils, urbanization, and natural resource governance. The event will provide a platform to initiate follow-up actions on land and soil-related decisions made at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), and will take place within the framework of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization’s Global Soil Partnership.
Global Soil Week is being organized by the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies’ (IASS) Global Soil Forum and its partners: Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit; European Commission; UN Food and Agriculture Organization; German Federal Environmental Agency; German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development; UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD); and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
Summary coverage will be available at
Coverage of this meeting by IISD Reporting Services, Conference Reporting Services, was funded by the Global Soil Forum.
