Join Monica Ibacache and colleagues in an interactive series of workshops introducing ecological design, permaculture. We view our homes and our bodies as ecological systems. We take nature as our teacher, and use design as a framework for understanding and connecting important ecological issues while learning about positive practical actions to take both individually and in community.
We begin the series of hands-on workshops with an introduction to houseplants and their detoxifying properties and end looking at creating regenerative nutrition and health.
Cost: $15- 25 sliding scale per session (Some materials will be provided and/or available for a small fee (materials list will be received at registration). to Register click here: http://www.edgarcaycenyc.org/eventdetails.php?evId=79
April 15 Houseplant Introduction & Clinic
Would you like to grow houseplants successfully? In this workshop, you will discover how plants can create a more regenerative space indoors, and learn about species that are most likely to be appropriate for your space. After a brief introduction to permaculture, learn how to get the most out of your plants while caring for them in an eco-friendly way. Also explore plants that you can grow for food, natural health remedies, and personal care products.
You will design your own indoor ecosystem using permaculture design principles, which can be applied to any living space, no matter how small, to create beauty and function.
Create simple and fast design exercises for selecting strategic locations for your plants.
Make a customized plan to work with as the growing season begins.
Diagnose houseplant health: Everyone is encouraged to bring plants in for an on-site diagnosis (or bring photos for large plants).
Learn about the emerging hydroponics trend, with info on how to join the growing community of NYC "farmers" growing food in their apartments ...without soil!
