Position A) Jr to Mid PHP Developer- 60-70K

Smith & Keller has an immediate need for a junior to mid level PHP Developer. As a PHP Developer, together with other team members, you are responsible for creating and maintaining of a wide range of online systems. You have knowledge in a variety of areas and a strong understanding of how to combine new technology with creative innovations. You continually educate yourself on the latest technologies, and try to stay on the professional edge. The ideal candidate should have solid experience developing using PHP5, MySQL and jQuery. As a PHP Developer, your responsibilities include

  1. Working with our team (e.g., team leads, executives, sales team) to plan program code enhancements and changes to the proprietary software, including all aspects of programming
  2. Maintaining software repositories, keeping our client software up to date, configuring servers, installing patches.
  3. Developing high-performance, test-driven, highly available hospitality industry oriented client software with flexibility and code reusability in mind.
  4. Helping other team members with extensive knowledge you have.
  5. Taking part in maximizing software functionality (either back-end or front-end related), optimizing and improving user experience.

Requirements

What you need for this position:

  1. 2+ Years solid work experience as a PHP programmer
  2. Experience writing well-documented, test-driven (TDD) PHP code
  3. Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) coding methodologies
  4. Proficiency with JavaScript (jQuery), AJAX, and JSON
  5. Experience with MVC frameworks, e.g. Zend Framework
  6. Proficiency with database schema design and performance

  8. Previous experience with hosting and/or cloud environments
  9. Experience in Git and code versioning

Position B) PHP Team Lead up to 120K
 

The PHP Team Lead manages a team of software developers (2-3) to gather and/or analyze project requirements, design technical specifications and to implement, test and deploy custom, web-based software applications.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and mentor software developers responsible for the organization’s software development function to ensure quality and efficacy are met and standards are followed in all programming efforts.
  • Manage software development projects by providing the appropriate technical specifications and direction to development resources and establishing realistic estimates for timelines to ensure that projects remain on target to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the CIO to set and implement policies and procedures related to software quality standards, change control and testing.
  • Identify and implement appropriate design, development and testing methodologies, best practices, documentation and tools to be applied to new and ongoing maintenance of applications.
  • Maintain source code and change management control.
  • Manage the release process.
  • Assist in coding, testing, debugging, and documenting applications on projects when necessary.

 

Required Skills/Experience

  • 3+ years prior experience managing a software development team in a LAMP stack environment (Linux, Apache, MySql but MS SQL Server preferred, PHP) utilizing an MVC framework.
  • Strong communications skills, the ability to present ideas and challenges to development and management staff to promote collaboration
  • Hands-on experience with the following:
    • Participating and supporting an Agile/Scrum process for release planning, daily stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives
    • Working with Project Managers and BA’s to remove impediments
    • Setting and measuring employee goals in annual and mid-year reviews
    • Hiring developers, and building a highly performing team
  • Prior significant, hands-on LAMP stack web-based software development experience (this is hands-on! you must still code!)

Other Skills/Experience

  • Prior experience and/or very strong working knowledge of MooTools, jQuery, JavaScript, Ajax, Lucene/Solr, ---Mongo DB, MS SQL Server

Education/Certifications

  • 4-year degree in computer science or related field or equivalent experience
