there's a great video by Catherine Devlin / PyOhio on contributing to Python that actually walks through the process of getting trunk, finding an issue on the tracker, choosing a bug to work on, running related regression tests, fixing an actual bug, and submitting it for consideration. ?It's worth checking out.
