Senior Software Engineer - Ruby on Rails/Java

RecycleBank is looking for Ruby on Rails/Java Sr. Software Engineer.  As a Senior Software Engineer, you will partner with product owners, program managers and fellow developers to deliver world class web applications an infrastructure capable of supporting millions of transactions per day. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Work with business staff and engineering management to plan and design web applications
Develop web applications, and maintain existing applications

Formulate and execute on plans to enhance existing applications

Develop test cases that match the designs, and ensure that the software passes test standards

Assist with deployment and implementation of web applications

Research and recommend new technologies to support application development goals

Formal Education & Certification

College degree in computer science or related field

Knowledge & Experience:

6+ years professional experience designing and developing software applications, with at least 4 years experience with web application development

Technical expertise in web application development

Strong knowledge of Ruby on Rails and ability do design and develop using that platform.

Expert-level knowledge of Java, J2EE, HTML, SQL, JavaScript, XML and Hibernate with a strong emphasis on accessing data from relational databases is required. 

This includes architecting complete solutions and choosing the appropriate technologies and infrastructure.
Experience with CMS (Content Management Systems) is highly desirable. Preference is on open source Content Management systems.

Experience with eCommerce and online Order Management systems is required.

Knowledge of model-view-controller and other web application development patterns

HTML and CSS coding experience

Experience with a test-driven-development methodology, and commitment to software quality

Javascript development experience preferred; AJAX experience a plus

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Solid judgment and decision-making skills; proven ability to make difficult design decisions

Positive, delivery-focused attitude, and high productivity

Ability to manage your own projects and tasks, and keep several balls in the air at once

SEO, web usability, and landing page optimization experience a plus
