MySQL Data Architect / Senior Database Admin

Job Description


RecycleBank is seeking a full-time Data Architect/ Senior Database Administrator (DBA) who is available to begin immediately. This role will be responsible for defining the future database vision and architecture, setting standards, developing the database, and providing production support for the current legacy environment. A key function of this role is to focus on the design and delivery of a new platform that is optimized for the web services/real-time environment, as well as the high transaction environment. The scope of responsibilities are:

Architecture and Design: Lead the architecture, design, creation, and deployment of SQL Server databases and database-dependent applications. Analyze and construct data models and architectures that result in highly performing/scalable systems. Evaluate logical and physical data models, create SQL objects and analyze SQL access paths from system and business requirements.

Development: Write and deploy code for database access, modifications, and constructions including necessary stored procedures. Work closely with other IT areas that provide Quality Assurance, Business Process Design, Configuration Management, Change Management and Environment Management. Responsible for code reviews of developer-written SQL code.

Application Release Support: Participate in the promotion of new application versions, problem fixes and enhancements where applicable. Ensure that all CAI environments are maintained with new releases. Ensure data integrity through constraints, encoding, auditing, etc.

Capacity Planning: Monitor database and reporting capacity and recommend appropriate system upgrades to management.

Data Migration: Use SSIS or Data Transformation Services (DTS) to handle inbound and outbound data from and to various sources. Support the data migration from production to reporting server.

Maintenance and Support: Including incident resolution, backup/recovery/replication, tuning, monitoring, and improving efficiencies of the databases. Ensure all back-up restore operations operate. Develop and utilize tools and methods to ensure that databases and SQL are performing optimally.

Success in this position will have the following key outcomes:

A future state SQL database platform built for both real-time web services and high transaction-oriented environment.

High availability database environment, with disaster recovery failover

Appropriate maintenance and support processes designed and implemented
Skills

The unique candidate will have a strong background in the following skills and technologies:

7+ years of experience in Information Architecture, including design, development and implementation of complex data environments.
Fluent using MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server 2005/2008
7+ years experience with database structures, theories, principles, and practices and designing/maintaining SQL Server database systems
5+ years experience with query tuning, disk and server configuration, database maintenance, monitoring (SCOM) and troubleshooting SQL Server production systems
Successful deployment of a complex Technical Architecture, including System Server Framework, Processing, Availability, Scalability, ETL implementations, and administering SSRS, SSIS and SSAS servers
Experience with integrating to Enterprise Service Buses (ESB), middleware and canonical data structures preferred.
Translating requirements into a solid technical design and solution to include architecture diagrams and design documents
Bachelor’s Degree
