Often feeling dissatisfied with/detached from my immediate environment and thinking too much about the future.
Being able to form great relationships with people from around the world based on an immediate sense of empathy and shared experience
Probably a few years ago college, where I had always felt apart from the "mainstream" culture and shut myself off some from other people by always living in my head and thinking about the next time I would head back to Japan. Then I became the only American to join the international student mentor group and I found myself so comfortable and accepted. Nearly all my closest friends ended up as TCKs.
I'm an American-born recent college grad who has lived much of the last six years in Japan. Also lived in Germany and studied IR. I'm in New York for a year working as a reporter at a Japanese paper before heading back to Japan next year.
