Type Checking JavaScript and Practical Examples with Flexbox/CSS3

RSVP by 5pm on Monday the 21st of April if you want to attend this talk. Unfortunately we have to close the RSVP 48 hours before the event for security. Also we must have your first and last name when you RSVP and if you're bringing a guest, please supply us with their first and last name too. Thanks!!

=======================================

Talk #2 at our new home of the Empire State Building and we're going to stick with our two talk format.

First up we have Pascal-Louis Perez from Square

=======================================

"Type Checking JavaScript"

Working in large codebases can often be improved by leveraging static analysis, such as type checking.

We survey how this technique applies to a very dynamic language, JavaScript, and look at the Closure Compiler's implementation http://code.google.com/closure/compiler/docs/js-for-compiler.html

Pascal-Louis Perez heads Square's engineering office in NYC. In a prior life, he was a compiler guy at Google and Stanford, with a special focus on type theory. Nowadays, he's a compiler geek, entrepreneur during the day, and public radio aficionado at night.

=======================================

Secondly, we have David Chester and Eric Smiling of Shutterstock

=======================================

"Practical Examples with Flexbox/CSS3"

Flexbox provides new tools to accomplish sophisticated layouts with ever-increasing browser support and a stabilizing API.  We'll talk through examples that were difficult or impossible before flexbox, which are now achievable and even straightforward.

David Chester is Chief Architect at Shutterstock and author of the Rickshaw graphing library.

Eric Smiling is Lead Front End Engineer, Customer Experience team at Shutterstock.

    Great meetup last night, thanks. I'm curious has anyone taken libraries like jQuery and compiled them using the closure compiler? On another note a link to the flex box slides would be great when it's available

      Hi Aisha. We're looking into it at the moment but I don't think it'll happen.
