Just in time for the 2012 election season, our September meetup will be a deep dive into public Federal Election Commission (FEC) campaign finance data using graph techniques.
First, Dave Fauth of IntelliWare Systems will demonstrate how to use Neo4J and Cypher to ingest and analyze the FEC's public datasets. Dave will show how simple queries can be combined to answer complex questions about how companies, lawmakers and prominent individuals influence the US political system at local, state, and federal levels.
Then, we'll break out into small groups to perform our own analyses, and see if we can find interesting relationships or features in the data.
Note: Attendees should bring laptops with JAVA installed for the workshop portion of this meeting. Neo4J should be downloaded (www.neo4j.org). If need be, we can help install Neo4J.
