Hacker Forum: Tech, Taboo, and (ehem) Porn

Join us for an evening of food, drinks, and an excellent talk by John Pavley on the role of taboo in building software and startups.

John (who often goes by Pav) is an old school hacker and seasoned tech leader who has spent the past 20+ years building, managing, and growing tech companies.

Pav has hacked on everything ranging from some of the earliest graphical user interfaces, to massively distributed ad networks, to an iPhone-based dungeon crawler. Along the way he's collaborated with some of the smartest people at some of the most innovative companies on earth: Apple, DoubleClick, Yahoo!, LimeWire, Spotify, and The Huffington Post.

We hope you'll join us for a free dinner, a great talk, and an opportunity to meet fellow engineers in a language- and technology-agnostic setting.

(Special thanks to HuffPost Code for hosting. And as always, we have a strict no-recruiter policy.)

Speaker was terrible, cherry picking examples, inconsistent arguments. Tried to paper over glaring holes with arguments from authority

Brandon - My comment is not harshness. It is kind of feedback.

Amitkumar -- sorry for the confusion; I was responding to James Callahan's comment.

Brandon, thank you for organizing. Very interesting talk. I feel a bit let down though. There was no mention of porn. Was it just a clever ploy to increase attendance or was the talk toned down for my benefit? :)

Are the guys going to be on their best behavior? since the topic is tech in porn? Is it safe to come? :)

Haha -- Pav'll actually just be comparing Porn and the startup world through the lens of taboo. Should be 100% SFW! (And if anyone acts in an inappropriate way, they will be asked to leave!)

I was partly joking but thank you for reassuring me :) I think I'll join you tonight.
