Walking Tour, Sims to Straus (1.6 miles)

Need a few moments’ rest? On Sunday December 8th, I’ll be conducting the first in a new series of walking tours of New York sculpture. My 2-3 minute historical introduction to each will be followed by a reading of a poem or a prose excerpt, and then we’ll stroll on to the next sculpture. The tour will cover 1.6 miles, from Dr. Sims (Fifth Avenue at 103rd St.) via the Burnett Fountain and Untermyer Fountain to Duke Ellington and Frederick Douglass (both Central Park North), ending at the Straus Memorial (Broadway at 106th St.).
Readings: I welcome volunteers for the readings. Message me if you’re interested.
Cost: $5 per person
Optional after the tour: dinner on the West Side, place & time to be determined
Participants limited to 20 (per NYC law); PLEASE RSVP if you will definitely be attending
Kindle books: Two of the sculptures on this tour, Straus and Sims, are in Outdoor Monuments of Manhattan and will be in the forthcoming Monuments of Manhattan videoguide. Within the next few weeks I’ll be issuing Kindle books for Sims and Straus that will include select archival photos from the videoguide - but you can enjoy the tour without them.
If you’d like to share a poem or excerpt, send it along and I’ll try to incorporate it into this tour or a future one.
If you’re interested but can’t attend, let me know, and I’ll make sure you’re on the list for future notices.

The entire walking tour was excellent. My only personal problem was that my right forefinger reacts to cold badly, so standing around in the cold was extremely painful, and the pain was distracting me.

Looks like the weather will be okay. Josh and I will be there!
