Dominican Republic Service/Mission Trip

This may be one of the most profound experiences you have ever had! This will be our 9th visit to the Mission of San Pedro in El Cercado in the mountains of the Dominican Republic. During this trip you will live and work alongside the mission workers helping to do the day to day projects which will include: bringing food and clothing to the poor, reforesting and planting, delivering school supplies to kids in need, resupplying mission resources, helping to beautify buildings via painting, cleaning and more. You will also get an idea of the many other projects that they are involved with.

There are 75 villages in the mountains that the mission caters to. Many of them were devastated when the dictators allowed American Companies to come in and cut down all the trees on the hillsides without reforesting them thus allowing all the farm-able soil to wash into the valley. The missions goals are to help reforest the land, provide agricultural education, build aqueducts for fresh water, latrines for sanitation, build schools for education and help with finding medical care and assistance for the sick.

The mission is run by the Archdiocese of Rockville Center and there is an opportunity for a very spiritual aspect if you wish to use your free time that way.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
