  • Hey Dave, thanks for the MIT link. You're awesome! I checked out the website a week or so ago, and it too looks awesome. I may just geek out over Xmas break and watch some classes to review Calculus and/or preview a few upcoming classes I have this Spring.

  • You can't to Potts Cove. The trail from the end of the road to Potts Cove is at least two miles.
If you're looking for a 4 mile loop, check out the lower section of the East Ridge. Up Lookout to East Ridge, north to Sourwood Gap, and then back on the Trestle to Lookout crosses three peaks and is right at 4 miles.

  • I did, thank you so much. Still taking notes on it. Can I return on the next trip we both go on?

  • Hey David ... the paddling groups I'm familiar with are the Western Carolina Paddlers, Foothills Paddler Club, and Carolina Canoe Club. Roll sessions are Friday evenings at the YMCA on Woodfin St., but they may be wrapping up soon.

  • Hi David - if you google 'ten essentials' you can easily find a list (or several lists). For more advanced hikes, I prefer that people take responsibility for finding out what they need to bring, rather than telling them... in my experience as a hike leader, I find that people tend to be more prepared if they have to do a bit of this work/research on their own. Active vs passive learning, basically.
